2.2.4 How to prepare a good internship

In order to have the best practical training in the context of taking into account the social and structural characteristics of the workplace, learning practices and pupil characteristics, it is advisable to take into account the following points:

1. Develop WBL programs with the selected companies.

WBL requires co-operation between school and company. So, you work together from the beginning. Agree on preparation, achievement and evaluation: Who does what, when and why? Make frequent and effective contacts.

2. Set up contacts.

By mutual agreement, they are the contact persons of the school and the company, in order to ensure a better connection between the institutions and to prevent the communication deficiencies.

3. Use a common language.

It is important that both the school and the company understand the conceptual framework around the WBL. In other words: Be sure of what you say and hear. It sets out clearly what activities the students are going to be involved in, as well as their timetable.

4. Select the students appropriately.

For workplace learning to be effective, it is necessary for the students participating in the project to know, at least at the basic level, the language in which the practical traineeships will be carried out, so if there is a need for selection criteria to be included and linguistic knowledge

5. Provide guidance during your professional training.

Make sure that students are assisted not only in workload but also in occupational behavior at work. In this way, the student can get different learning experiences.

6. Provide space for integration

Ensure that the student can actively and fully participate in the work community. Supervisors and colleagues play a crucial role in knowing professional culture, values, standards, meanings, etc
